Jennifer is a sculptor in stone who feels a close bond and deep fascination for her material. She works by direct carving, creating sculpture with simple, clean lines and smooth surfaces. Her elegant, nature inspired pieces have a contemporary, yet timeless feel, as solid as the material from which they are hewn.
She is self taught - her introduction to stone came from a chance sighting of quarrymen at work dressing wallstones. The sound, the rhythm and neat-handed skill was an inspiration. On the strength of this encounter, she purchased her first hammer and chisel.
Initially Jennifer worked in her spare time learning to carve, got a weekend job in a quarry and created a small range of ornaments and garden items in stone. This collection was quickly noticed, and she was invited to exhibit at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, which was a sell-out success, with customers also commissioning sculpture and ordering carved pieces.
Working in her studio in Yorkshire, the natural world and local wildlife – birds and animals seen from her studio - are a primary inspiration for her sculpture.
